FortiAP is a brand of wireless access points (WLAN access points) offered by Fortinet. These points are centrally managed by the integrated WLAN controller of any FortiGate security appliance or via the FortiLAN Cloud sharing and management portal.

By integrating wireless network controller functions with firewall devices, FortiAPs are simple to deploy and easy to manage. Features include:

  • A unified management console to simplify operations, thereby ensuring consistency in effective policy enforcement and compliance.
  • Built-in basis for zero-trust network access (ZTNA) and secure access to edge services (SASE), allowing flexibility in deployment.
  • Wireless LAN security from the leader in network security. An integrated firewall, IPS, application control, and web filter protect your wireless LAN from the latest security threats.

With comprehensive installation capabilities, FortiAP solutions fit the needs of businesses of all sizes. E.g.:

Single, multi-level building or corporate/educational campus with a group of large buildings

  • High-bandwidth designs, including Dual 5GHz and tri-band with Wi-Fi 6E, allow the maximum number of client devices to connect to the network at the same time without overloading.
  • Full NOC functionality with network visibility and AIOps simplifies complex network deployment into a solution managed by IT teams of any size.

A scattered number of small locations, often without a local IT department

  • Built-in NAC features enable secure deployment of devices in remote locations where IT does not have reliable access.
  • Orchestration of management processes allows for quick as well as easy deployment without the need for skilled installers at each location.

Micro branch

  • It can act as a SASE endpoint or as the basis for zero-trust network access (ZTNA)
  • Simple management and sharing through the FortiSASE interface

Remote access point installed in the employee’s home or micro-branch

  • Shared tunneling allows local traffic to be preserved while sending other, controllable traffic to the data center
  • Mounting options to use Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity using the same secure tunnel

Single site or small collection of sites with limited IT resources

  • Built-in NAC features ensure wireless network security without the need to install and manage additional products
  • The convergence of networking and security reduces management costs while also ensuring network security
